1850 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 19 December 1850
Location: Subdivision 31, Knox, Tennessee, USA
Notes: A primary source for siblings. Only the boys attended school (not shown). The 1870 census shows that Jesse's first daughter is Mary and first son is William, apparently named after his parents.
1870 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 17 Aug 1870
Location: District 11, Knox, Tennessee, USA
Notes:
1880 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 1880
Location: District 11, Knox, Tennessee, USA
Notes: This transciption probably has errors. I need to check the original document. Mary and Adaline from 1870 would be 24 and 20 respectively. Martha J is Jennett from 1870, but she would be 15. Bell would be 17. Elmira and Anna are new additions since 1870. Fredric Roope is a nephew, son of Henry Roope and Margaret Wells.
1900 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 25 Jun 1900
Location: 11 District, Knox, Tennessee, USA
Notes: Jesse's birthday must be late June. Jesse is a widower (his wife Caroline died in 1893), and he lives with his son S. G.

1857 Immigration:
From: Great Britain
To: US
Ship Name: Rhine
Notes: A primary source for Fred T.'s siblings. Ellen Finding (43) must have traveled separately from her husband Joseph and son Joseph, who would have been 17 at the time. It stands to reason the two Josephs traveled to America ahead of the rest of the family to prepare a place for the large family to settle.
1860 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 1860
Location: Arcadia, Wayne, New York, United States
Notes: Anne Finding would have been 23. Mary Finding would have been 18. They probably married. Ada from the 1857 record would have been Clara's age in 1860, so her full name may be Ada Clara Finding, or vice versa.
1870 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 9 Sep 1870
Location: Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA
Notes: F. T. is incorrectly transcribed as F. J. Laura is listed as Louisa due to a data entry and/or transcription error. We know this is the right Fred due to age, occupation, location and place of birth (England). Laura's parents are in the same household: Jacob and Mary O. Keller. They are said to be born in New York.
1875 New York Census (detail):
Date: 21 Jun 1875
Location: Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA
Notes: Fred K. must have died. Ethel is listed as Effa. John is a newborn. Jacob Keller and Mary O. Keller no longer live in the same household. Fred T. was born in England. Laura was born in Wayne County, New York.
1880 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 1880
Location: Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA
Notes: Laura is said to have died in childbirth, either with Joseph or a sibling who also died. The infant John Finding from 1875 is not accounted for, and may have died. Fred T. is incorrectly transcribed as Fred L. Mary Fore was the Mary Finding listed in the immigration manifest above. The 1875 New York Census lists her as Mary Ford. Laura must have been pregnant with Mada during the 1875 New York Census. The "brother" Charles Fore is not the same as Charles Finding above; he is actually Mary's son Charles A. Fore/Ford, born in Monroe County (possibly named after his uncle Charles Arthur). A family story says Joseph Finding (4) died at age 4 or 5, but the closest cemetery match is a Joseph B Finding who died in 1886. If it's this Joseph, he died at 10.

Obituary:
(Found in his sister's family Bible (Annie Veta Wells Osborne, in possession by Helen Sharpe)
W. H. Wells, age 67, barber, died yesterday morning at his home on Woodlawn Pike, after a long illness. Surviving are his widow; three sons, G. R. Wells, Los Angeles, Cal.; G. W. Wells, Knoxville; G. S. Wells, Chicago; and two sisters (daughters), Miss Annie Mae Wells and Miss Willie Ellis Wells, Knoxville; one brother, Rev. S. G. Wells, Knoxville; three sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Rich, Los Angeles, Mrs. G. J. Eubanks and Mrs. John Osborne, Knoxville. Mr. Wells had been a member of the First Baptist Church for years.
The funeral will be conducted at Gallaher's View Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. F. F. Brown officiating. Interment in Gallaher's View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be L. J. Lapasser, J. J. Hall, George Frazier, Tom White, Emerson Julian, and Ben Wilkerson.
Connection to Siblings:
Using the obituary, we can use listed siblings to corroborate William's early census records. Here are records related to William's siblings:
Annie Veta Wells married John C. Osborne. She is listed in the 1880 U.S. Census with Jesse G. as the head of household.
Annie's death certificate is certified by her husband and lists Jesse Wells as her father. It lists Harriett Price as her mother, which suggests Caroline Price had "Harriett" as her first or middle name.
The death certificate of Harriett Bell Osborne (I suppose she also married an Osborne) is certified by her brother S. G. Wells. She has parents Jesse Wells and Harriett Price.
Stephen "Gilbert" Wells' death certificate is certified by his son. It lists his father as Jesse G. Wells and mother as Caroline Price. It lists his occupation as minister, so this is in fact Rev. S. G. Wells mentioned in William's obituary. Records vary on S. G.'s middle name. He is listed as Gilford and Gibson in different census records. Both Jesse and Carter are living with S.G. Wells in the 1900 U.S. Census.

Notes: This transciption probably has errors. I need to check the original document. Mary and Adaline from 1870 would be 24 and 20 respectively. Martha J is Jennett from 1870, but she would be 15. Bell would be 17. Elmira and Anna are new additions since 1870.

Census.
1870 U.S. Census (detail):
Date: 17 Aug 1870
Location: District 11, Knox, Tennessee, USA
Notes: Mary, William, Belle and Gilford are listed in the same household.
